All-Comers slowed by strong wind

Athletes battled against strong head winds at Saturday's first All-Comers track and field meet at the National Stadium East complex.

There was time when the wind blew at negative 5.6 metres per second (mps), but the athletes sharpening up for June's National Senior and Junior Championships, were determined.

Jamaica's World Youth 200m champion, Ramone McKenzie, who represents Calabar High, finished second in the men's 100m (11.20), battling a very strong head wind of 5.2 mps, the second strongest measurement of the day.

His Calabar teammate, Warren Weir, won the event in 11.14, but the wind at that point was -4.3.

Camperdown's Rasheed Dwyer, who battled against a -5.2 wind, was third in 11.28.

The wind was as equally strong in the women's event, but Audra Segree of Holmwood Technical fought her way to a 12.53 seconds victory. Shericka Molton (12.68) and Petra Fanty (12.87), both of Holmwood, finished second and third, respectively.

Negative wind

In the 200m, World Champion-ships 1600m relay silver medallist, Anastasia Le-Roy, also had to battle the negative wind, but came out on top in 23.73 seconds ahead of her G. C. Foster College teammate, Sudian Davis (24.52), and Kerrian Stewart of High Performance Training Centre (25.09).

The High Performance Training Centre pair of Alanzo Barrett (21.36) and Tarik Edwards (21.51) finished one-two in the men's 200m, while Barbadian Andrew Hinds of MVP/UTech (21.53) was third.

In the 400m, Kaliese Spencer of MVP/UTech (52.46) looked easy in taking victory. Holmwood's Bobby-Gaye Wilkins, who won heat one, was second overall in 53.19, while Shakeeri Cole of Edwin Allen (55.14) was third.

The MVP/UTech pair of Chumaine Fitten (48.04) and Ricardo Cunningham (48.42) finished first and second in the men's 400m. Kerone Robinson of High Performance Training Centre (48.52) was third.

The Edwin Allen trio of Marvin Lewin (2:14.68), Mackola Joseph (2:14.86) and Ristananna Tracey (2:15.55) finished one, two, three in the 800m.

Claudia Calder (1.70m) and Khadeen Isaccs (1.65m) gave Alpha a one-two finish in the high jump, while Todea-Kay Willis of St Andrew High (5.35m) won the long jump.

Andre Drummonds of MVP/UTech (3:59.03) beat Bengalo Morrison (4:14.44) in the men's 1500m.

Holmwood (41.93) won the boys' 4x100m ahead of Camperdown (42.34), while Edwin Allen (45.36) took the girls' event ahead of Holmwood (46.28).
