Jamaica swimmers add more medals on final day of CARIFTA

Jamaica ended the XXIII CARIFTA Swimming championships with 35 medals on Sunday.

As the curtains closed on the final day of competition in Aruba, the Jamaican swimmers added two gold, three silver and four bronze to their medal haul ending the championship with eleven gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Sunday's first golden moment came when the Jamaicans finished one-two in the 13-14 Girls 200m backstroke. Brittany Kenny (2:35.42) touched ahead of her teammate, Kendese Nangle (2:36.45).

Nangle later anchored the relay team (Raynae Hall, Victoria Ho, Dania Banks) to victory ahead of Barbados in 1:55.12 setting a new national age group record in the event.

Ho also won two individual medals earlier in the evening when she placed second in the 13-14 Girls 400m freestyle and 100m breaststroke in 4:41.66 and 1:21.41 respectively.

Octivia Gray won silver in the 11-12 girls 100m breaststroke in 1:21.59, while Breanna Roman, also swimming in the 11-12 girls category, picked up a bronze in the 50m freestyle. Roman along with teammates Stefani Webley, Danielle Boothe and Rashida Shurland captured bronze in the 11-12 Girls 4 x 50m freestyle relay. The lone male medal came from Matthew Hilton in the 15-17 boys 100m breaststroke in 1:11.51.

The team will return to the island today where they will now turn their attention to preparing for the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) to be held here in July.
