RBTT chess play-offs tomorrow

The second phase of the 2007/2008 RBTT National Schools Chess Championships gets underway at the RBTT Bank Head Office in New Kingston tomorrow. The eight schools that placed second and third in their respective zones in the Corporate Area preliminaries last year, will attempt to secure berths in the quarter-finals in two weeks.

The teams will be competing in a three-round Swiss play-off, starting at 9 a.m.

The top four teams from the play-off will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face the four teams that placed first in each of the four Corporate Area zones.

Teams that have qualified for tomorrow's event include Calabar A and B, Campion College B, Wolmer's Boys A and B, Wolmer's Girls, Queen's and Charlie Smith.

While none of the teams are clear favourites, Wolmer's Boy's A boasts the play-off's top player in Stuart James, while Queen's are the most balanced team.
