It's anybody's race at surfing championships

Jamaica's top surfers will be on show at the 'Lighthouse' Surfing Beach when the fourth event of the Jamaica Surfing Association's 2007 National Open Championships (NOC) contest season surfs off tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.

Defending 2006 NOC champion Inilek Wilmot, who has 2,400 points from the first three events after a fourth-place showing at NOC 3, has been relegated to second in the standings by his younger brother Icah with 2,450 points with his third-place finish at the last event.

Ishack Wilmot who was in sparkling form, winning the last event at Copa, is currently third in the standings with 2,193 points. National Junior team member Ackeam Phillips is now in fourth with 2,173 points after his second-place finish at the last event and is definitely a contender in the championship race.

Last year's runner-up Luke Williams has slipped to fifth with 2,110 points after a disappointing ninth-place showing at the Copa event and will be determined to get back into contention.

With less than 300 points separating the top five and two events to go in the series, the race is still wide open.

Among the ladies, Elim Beckford is in first place with 2,860 points and will be trying to hang on to the lead. Danielle O'Hayon is nipping at her heels with 2,590 points and seems determined to fight to the end. Imani Wilmot is in third with 1,590 points.
