MultiCare sports

The annual MultiCare Inter-Schools football (boys) and volleyball (mixed) competitions get under way on Wednesday.

The two-day competitions are open to students from the 31 MultiCare-assisted schools in East, West and Central Kingston and Greater Portmore.

On Wednesday, students in the (10-12) age groups will compete, while matches for the 13-15 and 16-18 age groups will be on Thursday.

Both competitions will be held at Breezy Castle in downtown Kingston.

Hoping to retain their titles in the football competitions will be Balcombe Drive Primary & Junior High School in the (10-12) age group, Greater Portmore High School in the (13-15) age group and Haile Selassie High School in the (16-18) age group.

Defending champions in the volleyball competition are Holy Family Primary School (10-12), Calabar Primary & Junior High School (13-15) and Kingston Technical High School (16-18). The MultiCare Inter-Schools netball competition will be held on November 20 and 21.

Tank-Weld lift five-a-side title

Tank-Weld Metals won their second Knockout title on Tuesday when they easily defeated Courts Jamaica 3-0 in the Business House Five-A-Side football final.

Boasting a line-up with six Premier League players, Tank-Weld got the lead in the ninth minute when Jonathan Williams (Waterhouse) went on a solo run and shot past goalkeeper Nickoma Rainford.

Courts had two chances to pull back a goal but national goalkeeper Richard McCallum (Waterhouse) denied Andre McLean and Jermaine Oakley.

The half ended 1-0, but on resumption it wasn't long before Tank-Weld went 2-0 up in the 37th minute, thanks to Kemahei Campbell (Boys' Town), who beat Rainford with a powerful shot from close range.

The final goal was scored in the 49th minute when Jermaine Grey beat defender Omari Dennis and scored.

Portmore netball final

Top netball clubs Ken's Wildflower and Westchester will clash in the final of the Portmore Netball Association (PNA) Senior League next Sunday.

Westchester earned the right to play Ken's following their 27-13 victory over Hellshire United in a semi-final game at Ascot High School last Sunday.

The final, slated for 4:00 p.m. at the Ascot Court, is a repeat of the Open league decider in which Westchester defeated Ken's.

Preceding the final, Hellshire United and Bridgeport United A will play off for third at 3:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the awards ceremony and presentation will be held at Ken's Wildflower Sports Bar and Lounge from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25.
