Corporate giants Red Stripe have announced the repackaging of the annual Red Stripe light Beach Futbol tournament, which will now see the month-long competition reduced to a one-day event.
In its fourth staging, this year's contest, which will go under the name "Futbol Utopia", will not include teams from the country's professional leagues. Instead, according to Red Stripe Group marketing manager Carlo Redwood, it will cater to "wannabe pro footballers, local celebrities and business leaders."
"These changes have been borne out of a need to create an event that is completely all inclusive and one that caters to everyone," Redwood explained at the event's launch held at the Cuddyz Sports Bar on Wednesday night.
"The ever changing needs of the Jamaican people have prompted us to, this year, make the event, one that is geared more towards creating entertainment value and fun for all," he added
The one-day showdown, which will be held on Saturday August 11, will see the 16, 10-member teams involved compete for a prize of $1 million and also the Red Stripe Light trophy. A renovated Barbican venue is expected to host two matches played simultaneously throughout the day. |
