Domino league to pose off soon
The CTL-sponsored Port-more/St. Catherine Domino League is scheduled to start on Sunday, October 8 and the launching will take place tomorrow at Caymanas Park starting at noon.
Organised by the Jamaica Domino Federation for which Gerald Stephens is president, the competition has attracted 22 teams.
Last year's Division I champions St. Joseph will oppose Division II champions Frazer's Whip to commemorate the launch, which will be attended by officials of the sponsors, Caymanas Track Limited. The format will be the same as last year. All of the 22 teams will play each other with the top eight at the end of the preliminary round forming Division I and the next eight, Division II.
These teams will proceed to the quarter final and semi-final stages, the last two advancing to the finals of their respective divisions. Stephens in his role as president said the last competition was a success, thanks to the assistance of Caymanas Track Limited. He recalled that the finals were staged at Caymanas Park for the first time and attracted large crowds. With CTL continued participation, Stephens said he envisaged an even better competition and his hope is that sportsmanship and discipline of the highest level is maintained. -Oriville Clarke |
