Summerbell getting ready to perform on ice

Spurred on by the speed and excitement, David Sum-merbell, is now making the transition from motorsport to bobsleighing. For him it is something he has always dreamed of.

"I love speed and I always wanted to represent Jamaica at the international level. My objective right now is to win a bobsleigh medal for Jamaica, at the next Winter Olympics," the former Campion College student told Star Sports recently.

Summberbell is already preparing himself for his big move. He has been doing a lot of physical and weight training. Next month, he is expected to travel to Canada, where he will get an opportunity to train on the ice.

But why would a motor racing driver take a break from that sport and focus on bobsleigh?

"For me, I think it is an opportunity to represent your country, plus the driving skill required, is similar to that of motor racing," commented Summerbell, who first rep-resented Jamaica at the international level as a swimmer, at age 17.

The 37-year-old businessman was invited to train with the national bobsleigh team by coach Ricky McIntosh, due to his tactical skills behind the steering wheel.

"Although we are four years away from the next Winter Olympics, the Bobsleigh Fed-eration needs a lot of help as preparation starts very early," said Summerbell.

The Caribbean's champion driver is also gearing up to defend his title at next month's regional championship, which will be held in Trinidad and Guyana. He will also be defending his local title at the Heroes Day race meet scheduled for the Dover Raceway, St. Ann, on October 16.
