The commercial district of New Kingston will be transformed into a race track tomorrow, as motorsports fans and drivers are expected to turn out in large numbers for the Red Bull 'Smokin Street' Go-Kart Extravaganza.

After Thursday's drivers meeting at KIA Motors on Half-Way Tree Road, the karters are now bubbling with confidence. One such person is the sprint queen of the Go-Kart, Natasha Chung, who wants to stamp her authority in the male dominated sport.

"I don't feel out of place, because I will be representing females as best as I can and prove to the males that we can do it," said the petite Chung, who won her first go kart race two weeks ago at the Palisadoes International.

Top teenage karter

A former St. Andrew High student, the young karter was born in the United States but grew up in Jamaica. However, she will be also challenging one of the United States' top teenage karter, Timmy Mergenbier.

Over 50 go-karts are expected to hit Knutsford Boulevard from early as 7:00 a.m. until about 5:30 p.m. The first race should get under way at 10:00 a.m.

"I am very excited because I really want to win the prize for a trip for two to Brazil, just to witness the Formula One race," said Martin Anderson, who will be competing in the Rotax International Class.

He believes the drivers who can deny him of his dream trip to Brazil are Dominic Moore, Kyle Gregg and his younger brother Andre Anderson.

Full of confidence

Dominic Moore who has stamped his authority in the Rotax International Class, is full of confidence. A winner of the local class championship last year, young Moore has been training very hard and a lot is expected of him.

In the meantime, the fathers of some of the karters have been very supportive of their sons and even been assisting with the preparation for tomorrow's inaugural event.

"Timothy (Stewart) is looking forward to the challenge. The surface is a new track and nobody has driven on it before. Every one has less than a day to learn about this new track", explains Duncan Stewart. Duncan's son, Timothy, will be racing in the Rotax Junior Class.

Other drivers who should do well are the DHL Team of Peter and Sebastien Rae, Brian Fong Yee, Chris Myers, Chad Phillips and Dwight Moore.
