Brazilians rule at Beach Futbol

The Brazilian All-Star team scored a 2-1 win over Star Cosmos to capture the third Red Stripe Light Beach Futbol competition at the Hellshire Beach on Saturday.

Brazil, which entered the competition at the semi-final stage, secured their victory courtesy of two goals by captain Francis Farberoff.

Adrian Henry of Star Cosmos pulled one back, but it was too late to worry the Brazilians.

Local champions

The St. Mary-based Star Cosmos, by virtue of being the-highest placed local team, were crowned local champions and walked away with the $200,000 winning prize and the Red Stripe Light trophy.

Defending local champions, Portmore, secured third place and $100,000 with a 2-1 win over Rivoli United.

Portmore's Sheldon Palmer scored twice to win the Golden Toe award for most goals with 16.

The day's proceedings got started amid the threat of hurricane Ernesto with Star Cosmos clipping Rivoli 2-1. Andre Lawson and Leighton McDonald scored for the winners with the Barrington Planter replying for Rivoli.

Second encounter

In the second encounter, Brazil, courtesy of goals from Gilberto Silva and Raphael Xexeo, edged Portmore 2-1, for whom Sheldon Palmer scored.

The third game between Portmore and Star Cosmos was extremely close with David Boswell's goal proving to be the difference between both teams as Star Cosmos eked out a 1-0 win.

Brazil then clipped Rivoli 2-1 with Benyam Astorga and Francis Farberoff scoring for the blue and yellow-clad visitors. Rivoli's Derrick Planter was on target for his 12th goal of the season.
