Portmore seek win over Bath

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Portmore United will try to continue their winning streak as they go into the second week of competition in the Red Stripe Light Beach Futbol tournament being held at the Hellshire Beach in St. Catherine today.

Last week, Portmore were 4-3 winners over Waterhouse and will be trying to carry that momentum into their game against Bath Sports Club, who had a rest day last week. That game begins at 11:00 a.m.

In the second game of the day. Maverley Hughenden have a noon appointment where they will try their best to recover from last week's performance in which they were thumped 7-3 by St. Georges.

NEWCOMERS

Their opponents, Clark's Town, are newcomers to the tournament - like themselves, meaning the game might be a little more even than the last time Maverley took to the sand.

Rivoli play in their first game of the tournament today at 1:30 p.m. against Arnett Gardens.

Rivoli haven't had much luck in the past 12 months of football as they were relegated, along with Constant Spring, from the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.

Arnett, although coming off a 3-1 win over Naggo Head last week, failed to impress, and will be looking to have a more entertaining game today.

Tafari Lions is another team which opens its account today. The Lions game against Tivoli begins at 2:30 p.m.

ANXIOUS TO IMPRESS

It's a match-up in which both teams have something to prove. Tivoli, who lost a tough game against Harbour View on penalties last week, are anxious to impress, while Tafari Lions want to show Jamaica that they are capable of playing on any stage with the big teams.

Seba will also be anxious to do better on the sand today when they face the music against Star Cosmos in a 3:30 fixture.

Star Cosmos are opening their account knowing that a loss to a team that has already lost could mean the end of their tournament. Seba lost a 5-4 game against Village last week.

Constant Spring, who started with a bang against Humble Lion last week, play in the final match of the day at 5:00.

After a big 8-4 win, Spring must be wary of being overconfident against Wadadah who have shown an affinity for the sand as well.
