Tivoli tame Tafari Lions

TIVOLI GARDENS REBOUNDED from their penalty shoot-out loss to Harbour View last Sunday to trounce Tafari Lions 7-1 in the Red Stripe Light Beach Futbol competition yesterday at Hellshire Beach Club.
The tournament has allowed the teams' younger players to showcase their talent with Navion Boyd scoring a hat-trick and Ryan Reid and Jermaine Allen scoring two each.
"I'm proud of how the guys adjusted their game on sand," said Tivoli manager Brian Rose. "We really didn't do any sand training before entering the tournament and we've played good in both games."
Tivoli, like most of the other teams, are using mostly their Under-21 players in the beach futbol competition. Rose said this is to preserve the club's senior players for the Wray and Nephew National Premier League season, which starts on September 10.
Tivoli lost their opening game to Harbour View on penalties after playing to a 5-5 draw at the end of extra time. Rose said he is hoping for a Harbour View-loss next Sunday in order to be the lone qualifiers from the three-team group.
DRAMATIC WIN
Seba United had the most dramatic win of the day when Glenroy Miller scored a golden goal in extra time for a 5-4 win over Star Cosmos. Miller, who also scored in the second third, struck a powerful shot from just in front of his own goal, leaving no chance for the goalkeeper as the ball swerved to the far corner.
Defending champions Portmore United were the first qualifier to the second round with two successive wins. After edging Waterhouse 4-3 last Sunday, they returned to beat Bath Sports Club of St. Elizabeth by a similar scoreline.
Rivoli United barely got past Arnett Gardens 2-1 in a dull affair with Fabian Gordon and Luke Suarez scoring.
A brace from Andre McLean gave Maverely/Hughenden a 4-3 win over Clarks Town while the Constant Spring/Wadadah match was not played.
Constant Spring failed to show for the match and as a result forfeited. |
