Surfing Open Series crashes off again

THE FIFTH EVENT of the Jamaica Surfing Association's National Open Series is set for this Saturday at the Copacabana Surfing Beach in St. Andrew, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

With perfect waves predicted and Jamaica's top surfers expected to compete, the event promises to be a well-contested affair .

Luke Williams leads the field with 2,583 points from two wins and a sixth place showing. Under-16 national team member Ackeam Phillips is second with 2,225 points, while Shane Simmonds and Inilek Wilmot share third with 2170 points.

Less than 400 points separate the rest of the surfers in the top 10 which include Jason Pusey in fifth, Ishack Wilmot in sixth and defending champ Icah Wilmot in seventh.

Wilmot, however, has withdrawn from the series because of a broken foot.

Joel Lawrence eighth, Leopold Bignall ninth and Eneson Lightbourn tenth complete the top of the table.

DIVISION HEATING ONE

The women's open division is heating up also with Imani Wilmot holding a strong lead with two wins and a second place finish for a combined 2583 points. In second is Elim Beckford with 2,225 points. Danielle O'Hayon is in third with 1,670 points but has only started in two of the first three events. Esther Beckford, who has only started in two events is in fourth with 1400 points. Angelina Rowe is 5th with 610 points from only one start.
