Being a Yam Farmer is grueling job performed in under the hot Caribbean sun and requires a sound mind and body to do the work properly. The athletic competitions held on TYF Sports Day are a tribute to these Yam Farmers and the manpower and effort they put in to growing Trelawny?s main crop. In an effort to charge up the atmosphere for Grand Yam Festival Day, Sports Day brings together athletes, fans and sponsors to Albert Town for a day of sports, food, music and prizes. The Cyclists kick off the day in Falmouth as they line up and wait for the signal to start the rugged trek to Albert Town in the 50K Cycle Race. After the cyclists reach the finish line and have a chance to catch their breath fans in Albert Town will start anticipating the runners as they head to Albert Town from Warsop in the 10K Road Race. After the last runner has crossed the finish line the best athletes of the day will be awarded for their performances. Cash, trophies and prizes will be given to the top 3 finishers in the Cycle Race, the Men?s 10K Road Race and Women?s 10K Road Race. In addition the 10K Road Race will also see prizes go to winners in various age categories. An award for the Best Trelawny Athlete will be given in all three races. Come support Jamaica?s athletes on Easter Sunday as we pay tribute to Trelawny?s greatest athlete, the yam farmer. |
