After assuming the lead in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship, Jamaica's race drivers will now attempt to upset the apple cart at this weekend's Florida Spring Championship race meet.

The Jamaican contingent of Jonathan Law, Thomas Issa, Colin Daley Jr, Joshua Sirgany, Richie Leckler, Peter Rae, Peter Moodie Jr and members of the NG Racing Camp are scheduled to leave the island today for the Homestead Circuit Racing track in Miami.

First time on foreign soil

"This will be the first time out on foreign soil for Fraser and Joshua. Thomas is a seasoned competitor overseas," noted Rae, who is travelling in the capacity as driving coach.

According to Rae, Fraser and Thomas will be driving 2009 Birel karts, while Joshua will be competing in a 2009 Tony kart.

The latter is down to compete in the Rotax Mirco Max Class as well, while Thomas and Fraser have been registered for the Rotax Mini Max Classes.

All the karters will be using the overseas meet to prepare for next month's international meet at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston, which has been dubbed 'Carnival of Karting'.

Ready for the competition

"By the time the international meet comes around Jonathan (Law) should be ready for the competition. He will be competing in the Rotax Mini Max Class," said his father, Sammy, who is also part of the Jamaican contingent.

Rising star Colin Daley Jr will be racing in the Rotax Jr Class and a lot is expected of him.

Friday, June 5, will be the official practice day. The first practice session will begin at 9 a.m. and goes through to 5 p.m. Race 3 is scheduled for Saturday and Race 4 is scheduled for Sunday.
