Walters KOs rival in a jiffy
PANAMA CITY, Panama (CMC): Undefeated Jamaican featherweight boxer, Nicholas Walters, used a thunderous right hand to beat Panama's Leovigildo Siris with a first-round knockout in their non-title bout on Thursday night.
The referee, Hector Afu, stopped the bout at 36 seconds of the opening round of their clash at Hotel El Panama.
The result moved Walters to a record of 11-0 with nine knockouts, while Siris falls to two wins (one knockout) against five losses and one draw.
After Walters floored Siris with the right hand, the 19-year-old Panamanian barely beat the 10-count and was not allowed to continue.
Promoter Hector Villareal declared the Jamaican's effort surprising and impressive.
"The opponent (Siris) is a tough guy, who has faced good competition and went the distance with some very good boxers in this weight class," Villareal told CMC Sport.
complete shock
"It was a complete shock for Walters to win so quickly," he added.
On a very busy schedule since turning pro in August last year, the former Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) gold medallist and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games bronze medallist, is expected to be in action again on July 30.
In the main event on the card, Jose Hinestroza suffered two knock-downs and lost to fellow Panamanian Heraclides Barrantes. |
