Granville Wolfpack jumped into second place in the 2009 Lucozade Men's Basketball Championship over the weekend, when they brushed aside Hopewell Vipers 60-40 in the feature game of a second-round double-header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts on Sunday night.

In the second game of the night, fourth-place Railway Lane Tigers turned in one of their better performances of the season, adding another painful chapter to bottom-place Junior Avalanche's miserable season with an emphatic 64-41 win.

The loss was Junior Avalanche's seventh in consecutive games.

In their game against Vipers, the enterprising Wolfpack, which are trailing competition leaders Central Flames by two points, displayed spanking form, winning three of the four quarters by 14-8, 19-17 and 18-13 margins. In the other quarter, the hapless Vipers won by a close 11-9 margin.

Dwayne Keene, who had 16 points and eight rebounds, was the outstanding player for Wolfpack, who were winning their fourth game of the season. He was well supported by Eric Morrison and Andr? Uter, who both scored 10 points.

Vipers got fairly decent performances from Dwight Reid, who finished with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Demar McGregor contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Struggling opponents

In the second game, the Tigers were in no mood to be gentle with Junior Avalanche as, except for the second quarter, which finished 14-14, they made light work of their struggling opponents, winning the other quarters 10-7, 24-6 and 16-14.

Detroy Jewery, with 15 points and six rebounds; Anthony Christie, who contributed 11 points; and Dorian Williams, with 10 points, were the outstanding players for the Tigers.

Mickey Haughton, with a game-high 15 points and five rebounds and Franz Clennon with 12 points, were the top contributors for Junior Avalanche.
