Bridgeport United and Ravens B clash in today's final of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Western Union-sponsored Division B League at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 5:45 p.m.

Bridgeport advanced to their first final with a nail-biting 27-26 win over Speg B in the first semi-final on Tuesday, while Ravens B defeated Waulgrovians B 30-26 in the second semi-final.

Shooting sensation

Bridgeport's 15-year-old shooting sensation, Trudy-Ann Pennant, scored a game-high 21 goals from 33 attempts to lead her team to victory, while the team's captain, Yanique Levy, netted six of eight shots. Chiquana Reid, 17/23 tries and Chantoy Gordon, 9/19 tries, scored Speg B's goals.

"Our performance was ok. I thought we stuck to the game plan in the first half and we had a comfortable lead, but we started playing Speg B's game and they catch us, but we went back to our game and that allowed us to pull off the win," Levy said.

She added: "We played them (Speg B) earlier in the season and they beat us by two points (34-32), so it was really nice to beat them this time around. Thanks to our sponsors, Edgewater Medical Centre and Dr Dane Levy, for giving us this opportunity."

Stepped up defence

Bridgeport led 9-6 and 16-13 for the first two quarters, but Speg B stepped up their defence in the third quarter and jumped in the lead at 20-19. However, Bridgeport rallied in the final quarter, outscoring their opponents 8-6.

Arlene Findlay, coach of Speg B, thought her team lost focus near the end of the game and it cost them.

"We lost our cool in the final two minutes of the game and that's where we lost. But we can't hang our heads in shame because we have done well," she noted.
