Upper Camp captured the Jamaica Netball Association's (JNA) Supreme Ventures Divisional 'C' League competition with an exciting 34-33 victory over Omega 'C' at the National Indoor Sports Centre yesterday.

Omega 'C' dominated the early minutes of the match and led by five points, 18-13, at half-time.

Upper Camp reduced the deficit by two goals in the third period, but they still trailed Omega 'C' 24-27.

In the fourth period, Upper Camp stepped up their defence, which led to seven turnovers by their opponents. National Under-16 captain Shereesha Richards scored eight of her game-high 25 points from these turnovers to lead her team to victory.

Richards received support from Shaye Walton, eight goals from 10 tries. Shanice Beckford led the way for Omega 'C' with 21 goals from 23 tries and received support from Damarlie Williamson, 12 goals from 16 attempts.

Rohan Robinson, coach of Upper Camp, was very delighted with his team's performance.

"I think this was an excellent win for us because our girls showed great character by sticking to the game plan," he said.

Deserving victory

"This is a very deserving victory for us because our girls are very committed and they love netball and they went out there and enjoyed themselves and I am very proud of them," added Robinson.

Meanwhile, Kerry Smith, coach of Omega 'C', said: "I think carelessness cost us this game because I think that we had the match in our hands and we allowed them to get back into the game."

Upper Camp collected the winners trophy and $50,000, while Omega 'C' took home the second-place title and $40,000.
