HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC):

Top Caribbean side Trini-dad and Tobago had to settle for fourth place and Jamaica finished seventh in the eight-nation Women's Pan American Cup hockey on Sunday.

The Jamaicans secured seventh spot with a 2-0 victory over hosts Bermuda while T&T lost out for third place with a 2-1 defeat to Chile in the battle for minor placings on the final day at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

Canada finished fifth after trouncing Mexico 10-1 with Thea Culley getting four of the goals.

The United States and Argentina met in the final late Sunday with victory going to defending champions Argentina 7-6 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Krystal Reid opening the scoring for Jamaica in the 28th minute and Sharee Russell added the second in the 38th minute as the Jamaicans outgunned Bermuda in the day's first match.

Bermuda finished the tournament without scoring a goal while conceding 49.

Trinidad and Tobago, surprise semi-finalists, started brightly against Chile and took a third-minute lead through Blair Wynne.

Outstanding first half

Trinidad and Tobago's goalkeeper Petal Derry had an outstanding first half as she blocked shot after shot to deny Chile.

But the South American side drew level through Lilia Hernandez in the 37th minute before Paloma Rico snatched the winner in the 49th minute to consign Trinidad and Tobago to fourth spot.

Canada ran away with the battle for fifth and sixth places after racing into an 8-0 half-time lead against Mexico which included a hat-trick by Culley.

Katie Baker opened the scoring in the fourth minute and seven minutes later Callie O'Hara doubled the lead before Culley netted her first in the 13th minute.

Penalty corner

Culley was on the scoresheet again in the 17th minute and Natalie Wise made it 5-0 in the 23rd minute from a penalty corner.

Culley completed her hat-trick in the 26th minute before Shannon Elmitt made it 7-0 when she scored from a penalty corner and on the stroke of half-time, Elmitt added her second goal as the Mexicans were left reeling under the onslaught.

Mexico improved after the break but could not stop Culley adding a fourth in the 40th minute, although they finally scored in the 56th minute through Michel Hernandez.

Jessalyn Walkey rounded out the scoring when she added Canada's 10th goal in the 57th minute.
