JDF still on top in JTTA league

Defending champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) defeated hosts Hy-Performance 3-1 in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association's Northwest Development Division One club league match on Saturday.

The JDF lead the standings with 22 points, ahead of Athletico Port Antonio and University of Technology (UTech) (15) each, Pembroke Hall (14), Hy-Performance (13), and University of the West Indies (UWI) (six).

The top four finishers will advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

In a Division Four game, Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I edged Pembroke Hall 3-2.

Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I are on top of the standings with 19 points, followed by defending champions Highgate United (16), UWI (11), JDF (nine), Pembroke Hall (eight) and Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club II (four). The top four teams will also advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

In the Division One contest between the JDF and Hy-Performance, former national champion Christopher Marsh won two matches for the Soldiers when he defeated Emani McPherson 3-1 and outclassed Simon Tomlinson 3-0, as Phillip Drummond won the third match for JDF, easing past Tomlinson 3-0. Rohan Schloss crushed Altamont Henry 3-0 to pull one back for Hy-Performance.

In the Division Four contest between Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I and Pembroke Hall, Jamie Allen clipped Dennis Rushton 3-2, Mario Wisdom edged Korey Moulton 3-2 and Tyrone Blake trounced Alecia Bennett 3-0, for Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I's three wins. Andrene Hart turned back Aldeen Simmonds 3-1 in singles, and Moulton & Hart nipped Allen & Wisdom 3-2 in doubles, for Pembroke Hall's two consolation triumphs.

The competition continues today in Division Two when Hy-Performance host JDF at Gibson Circle, Hope Pastures starting at 7:00 p.m.
