Rex James was returned as president of the Jamaica Bridge Association at its annual general meeting, held on Wednesday night at the Police Officers' Club.

The other members of the executive are Richard Phillips (vice-president); Ulla Dahl (treasurer); Valerie Marshall (secretary); Michael Coore (committee member); Brodsy White (committee member) and Elizabeth Williams (committee member).

The major venture for the club in 2008 was the first World Bridge Games which replaced the World Bridge Olympiad. These games were held in Beijing, China, in October. The local association competed in three categories - open teams, women's teams and youth teams.

Portmore football showdown

Leaders Greater Portmore will take on Garveymeade in the E-Services sponsored Portmore Division Two football League match at the Watson Grove playing field, tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.

In the opening game at the venue at 1 p.m. fourth-place Watson Grove (nine) host Caymanas Gardens Site D (seven).

Greater Portmore (13) are still reeling from a shock 4-2 defeat from the boots of second-place Christian Pen in the Genus Pharmacy-sponsored mid-season final last Sunday and will want to bounce back against their seventh-place (eight) opponents.

In other games, Portmore Pines tackle Hellshire United at the Hellshire playing field at 1 p.m; two hours later, Braeton United square off with Daytona, while, another game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Racing playing field, as cellar dwellers Racing United host Wanderers.

Bygrave Unitedsecure 3-0 win

Bygrave United registered the biggest margin of victory as action continued in the Insport/Jacques Road Six-a-side Sunday League earlier this week.

In the feature match of a double-header played at the Jacques Road community playing field, Bygrave blanked Baker United 3-0. Bygrave went on the offensive from the first whistle and were in front after three minutes when Kemar Simpson notched the opening goal.

The teams went into the break with Bygrave leading 1-0. After half-time, Bygrave sealed victory with two late goals.

In the opening game, Pallington Lane and 50/50 Squad drew 1-1. Tricky forward Kurt Hussey gave Pallington the lead in the eighth minute, finishing off an audacious back heel from captain Jerome Freckleton. But 10 minutes after Pallington celebrated, 50/50's Domanick Brett found the equaliser with a powerful strike.

New date for MultiCare basketball clinic

The 2009 MultiCare sports programme, Train The Trainers Basketball Clinic, has been rescheduled for February 18 at at the Breezy Castle Centre starting at 9 a.m.

The clinic, which is staged for Physical Education (PE) teachers from the 31 MultiCare-assisted schools, will focus on the basic elements of basketball and incorporates both theoretical and practical aspects of the sport.

The annual clinic also updates PE teachers on the rules and regulations of the MultiCare Inter-Schools basketball competition which is slated for April.

The MultiCare sports programme is one of three core programmes administered by the MultiCare Foundation. The other two are the visual arts and the performing arts.

TT wins for BOJ, Hy-Performance

Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) clipped visitors Highgate United 3-2 and Hy-Performance blanked hosts Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club 3-0 in two Division Two matches played recently in action from the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/Northwest Development National Club League.

With the win, BOJ, who have completed their fixtures, moved to eight points, which put them atop Division Two, group one, and ahead of defending champions Pembroke Hall (seven), Highgate United (five).

Hy-Performance took over sole leadership of group two of Division Two, moving to 13 points. They are followed by University of Technology (UTech) with 10 points, JDF (nine) and Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club (seven).

In individual results in the BOJ/Highgate United match, which was played at Nethersole Place, Jide Lewis won two matches for BOJ as he outplayed Kemall Russell 3-1 and edged Shayne Frost 3-2.

Oracabessa, Goshen are champions

The Island Sport Trust Primary School Netball and Football Championships recently came to an exciting conclusion with Goshen and Oracabessa capturing the netball and football titles, respectively.

On the football field Oracabessa came out 3-2 victors after a hard-fought battle with Donnington Primary.

Oracabessa took the lead 12 minutes into the game with a goal from Jordan Mitchell. But the lead was quickly erased when Jonnoy Nelson netted two minutes later.

Donnington surged ahead to gain the advantage going into the second half when Jonnoy Nelson gained control of a loose ball and dribbled past the keeper for an easy 2-1 lead.

Oracabessa Primary struck back in the second half through the diminutive Robert 'Bashy' Reid who scored a brace allowing Oracabessa Primary to lift the trophy.

On the netball court debutants Gayle Primary were beaten 6-2 by Goshen Primary, who were securing their second title in as many years.

CTL Portmore domino

Unbeaten Eagle View are still on top in the CTL Portmore/St Catherine domino league following their 300-280 win over defending champions Caribbean Classic in an away match last Sunday.

Thanks to their perfect record, Eagle View lead the standings with 44 points from 11 matches. The only other unbeaten team in the competition is Eradication with 40 points but from 10 matches to be third in the standings. Fort International with 41 points from 11 matches (one loss) are in second.

Rounding off the top eight in the standings going into tomorrow's 12th round are Masterpiece and Ackee Pod jointly in fourth on 34 points from 11 matches, followed by Hurricane with 33 points from 11 matches, Caribbean Classic and Marlie Mount, both with 30 points from 11 matches.

Negril pool tourney

The top players in the island are gearing up for the Palm Court Bar and Car Wash-sponsored Western Negril singles pool tournament on the weekend of February 14 and 15.

They will be vying for the $50,000 first prize and trophy donated by the sponsors. The runner-up will receive $25,000, third $10,000, fourth $5,000 while players finishing from fifth to eighth place will each receive $2,500. Entry fee is $1,500.

The island's top two players, Portmore's Sunil 'Termite' Kissendal and Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove from MoBay are expected to be on show. Kissendal defeated Blagrove 4-2 in the final of the valuable Kingston Beer/Pool Tables and Billiards Supplies singles tournament at Indigo Sports Bar last December and fans are looking forward to another intriguing clash between them.
