Alpart power past Pembroke Hall

Alpart defeated hosts Pembroke Hall II 4-1 in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/ Northwest Development Division Three Club League match at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre on Thursday.

In the day's other game, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) stopped hosts University of Technology (UTech) 4-1.

However, Juici Patties still lead Group Two standings with nine points, one ahead of Alpha, who are followed by Hy-Performance (seven) and Pembroke Hall II (three).

The JDF lead Group Three with 10 points, followed by Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I (seven) and the University of the West Indies (UWI) and UTech, with five each.

The top two teams in the division will progress to the quarter-finals.

At the Pembroke Hall Community Centre, Dervon Parchment outplayed Evon Richards 3-1 (10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8), Dwight Griffiths edged Jerome Jones 3-2 (18-16, 4-11, 6-11, 13-11, 11-7) and Oswald Hall trounced Jermaine Johns 3-0 (12-10, 11-3, 11-3) in singles matches, for Alpart.

Parchment and Allen then over-powered Jones and Johns 3-0 (11-8, 11-1, 12-10) in doubles to secure Alpart's fourth win.

Charles Brown defeated Allen 3-1 (11-2, 9-11, 16-14, 11-5) to pull one back for Pembroke Hall II.

In Wednesday's action, former champions Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club edged newcomers and UTech 3-2 in the lone women's match at the UTech Auditorium.

However, defending champions Pembroke Hall still lead the standing with 13 points, ahead of former champions UWI and Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club on (12) each, Hy-Performance (eight), UTech (four) and Highgate United (two).

The top four teams at the end of the preliminary rounds will advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

National representative Andrea Wadsworth won two matches for Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club.

She defeated Yolande Morris 3-0 (11-5, 11-5, 11-2) and Latoya Lynch 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-6), as Aldeen Simmonds eased past Morris 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-7) to complete a clean slate of victories for their team.

Lynch outlasted Simmonds 3-2 (11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10) and Jamilla Fairweather got by Melissa Anthony 3-1 (11-5, 11-9, 11-13, 11-6) to record UTech's triumphs.
