COLON CITY, Panama (CMC):

Undefeated Jamaican boxer, Nicholas Walters, stretched his winning streak to seven Saturday night, when he defeated Panama's Alejandro Corrales on a unanimous points decision, in their non-title featherweight bout.

Both boxers suffered knockdowns in the six-round contest and the Panama-based Walters went on to win clearly on all the judges' cards, 59-55, 59-54, 58-55 at Hotel Melia Panama Canal.

With his latest win, the 23-year-old Walters is now 7-0 with five knockouts and Corrales slips to five wins (3 knockouts) against four defeats and one draw.

Aiming for another good win to boost his chances of being named 2008 'Rookie of the Year' in Panama, Walters had one blemish when he was floored in the fourth round. But the 23-year-old Jamaican rallied well and knocked Corrales down in the fifth round en route to his handsome points victory.

Walters, a former Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) championship gold medallist and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games bronze medal winner, turned pro this past summer after failing to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.

He is considered a candidate for Panama's 2008 Rookie of the Year award, based on his solid winning performances in 4-1/2 months as a pro here.

Walters made his professional debut on August 2, scoring a comfortable points win over Esteban Ramos.

He has stopped five of his opponents subsequently, including two - Armando Carpintero and Raul Miranda - by first-round knockout.

In Saturday's main event, Haiti's Daniel Edouard scored a swift knockout win over Panama's Eduardo De La Cruz to win the FedeLatin middleweight crown.

Edouard took control immediately and needed only 2:03 of the first round to stop De La Cruz by technical knockout.
