PANAMA CITY, Panama (CMC):

JAMAICAN FEATHERWEIGHT boxer Nicholas Walters predictably won his sixth professional fight on Friday night when he defeated little-rated Panamanian Ovidio Mojica on a fourth-round technical knockout (TKO).

Walters stopped the 37-year-old Mojica at 43 seconds of round four in their scheduled six-rounder on a 10-fight card at the Sala de Eventos La Eskina.

In the main event, Loel Barrantes defeat Victor Perez to capture the vacant Panamanian light welterweight title.

Walters, a former Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) champion, improved his ring record to 6-0 with five knockouts, while Mojica's log dipped to two wins against 15 defeats.

Mojica has now lost 12 of his last 13 fights.

Turned professional

A bronze medal winner at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia, Walters decided to leave the amateur ranks and become a pro this year after he failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics. He is expected to have one more fight before year-end.

Jacques Deschamps, his Haitian manager, has also booked him for a December 13 bout with Panamanian Alejandro Corrales.

Corrales, 21, has a ring record of five wins (three knockouts) against three losses and one draw and is expected to be the Jamaican's toughest opponent to date.

Walters made his professional debut on August 2, scoring a comfortable points win over Esteban Ramos. He has stopped all of his opponents subsequently, including two - Armando Carpintero and Raul Miranda - by first-round knockout.

In Friday night's main bout, Barrantes became the new light welterweight champion of Panama when he stopped Perez by second-round TKO.
