The high standards set by the Jamaican athletes in Beijing, China, has become contagious, as all the other sporting entities are aiming to keep the Jamaican flag flying high.

Among the entities are members of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC), which will leave the island this afternoon for the second leg of the Caribbean Drivers Champion-ships, scheduled to be held in Barbados on August 30.

"My intentions are to bring back home the gold," said Doug Gore, who at present is third in the points standing behind Jamaica's David Summerbell and Guyana's Andrew King.

Only a mere point separates Summerbell and King, who are on 20 and 19 points, respectively.

Gore believes that the very tight and challenging Barbados track could be a major obstacle to King.

"I believe the Barbados track better suits myself and David's car. All we need to do is to ensure that we finish in the top three of every event," said Gore.

A jubilant Summerbell said he was still in the Olympic spirit and would love to continue what the nation's athletes started in Beijing.

"I am planning to keep the Jamaican flag flying high," said Summerbell, who has won the regional championship on at least one occasion.

The other member of the Jamaican team include Gary Williams of Team MoBay and new kid on the block, Christopher Campbell, out of Manchester.

The cars have already been shipped to Barbados and the team, comprising drivers, mechanics and a manager, leaves for Barbados today by Air Jamaica.

The participating countries are Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname.
