DESPITE A gallant effort in the finals of the women's 100 metre hurdle, Jamaica's standard bearer in the obstacle event will be ending her Olympic career without a medal.

The 33-year-old Brigitte Foster-Hylton was sixth in a blanket finish, one place behind compatriot Delloreen Ennis-London at the Beijing Olympics in China.

Foster-Hylton has signalled her intention to hang up her spikes, stating after the race, that this was her last Olympics.

"This is my last Olympics," she said. When questioned about her participation in the World Championships in Berlin in 2009, she said; "I don't know if I will be on the track next year."

Dawn Harper (12.54) of the USA won gold in the event. Sally McLellan (12.64) of Australia took silver and Priscilla Lopes Schlip (12.64) of Canada captured bronze.

Ennis-London was fifth in 12.64, one-hundredth of a second ahead of Foster-Hylton.

Jamaica's Sports Woman of the year for 2002/2003, Foster-Hylton is the reigning Commonwealth games champion. She has had a decorated career having won bronze in the World Championship in 2005, gold at the Pan America Games in 2003 and silver at the World Championships that year.
