CISC swim champs start today
OLYMPIAN ALIA Atkinson will compete in the 18 and over girls' 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly events today, as the 17th Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) begin in earnest.
The first event starts at 8:30 a.m. at the National Stadium pool. The cham-pionships officially began with an opening ceremony last night.
Atkinson, 19, who will be competing in her second Olympics in Beijing from August 8-24, is the national record holder in the 50m butterfly at 28.87 seconds, and is expected to perform well.
Other action
Also in action today are Carifta champs Stefani Webley and Breanna Roman. Both girls will compete in the 11-12 age group, with Roman down for the 100m freestyle and Webley the 50m butterfly.
Brad Hamilton, the national record holder in four events (50, 100m breaststroke and 100, 200m butterfly) will compete in the boys' 18 and over 100m freestyle and the 50m butterfly.
Other local swimmers set to take to the pool are Danielle Boothe (girls' 11-12, 50m butterfly), Stephen Moodie (boys' 13-14, 50m butterfly), Kendese Nangle (girls' 13-14, 50m butterfly), Dominique Dawson (girls' 15-17, 50m butterfly) and Jonathan Wong and Julian Wynter-Anderson (boys' 18 and over, 400m individual medley).
There will also be action in water polo and synchronised swimming today. |
