THE CARIBBEAN Volleyball Championships are quickly approaching and the Jamaica Volleyball Association's (JAVA) male and female squads will play a series of friendly matches against The Bahamas on the weekend in preparation for the games scheduled for the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Barbados from July 13-21.
The 35-member Bahamian delegation is expected in the island this evening and will begin the first day of competition tomorrow at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl at 9 a.m. The male and female teams will compete throughout the day until 6 p.m.
The final round of competition will he held on Sunday at G.C. Foster College at noon and at the UWI Bowl at 6 p.m. The Bahamians will depart the island on Monday morning.
Squad ready
The Jamaica manager, Jennifer Evans, said the squad was ready for the encounters and stood a good chance of sweeping the series.
"The men, for example, were successful in their last match against The Bahamas. But you never know how the competition will turn out," Evans said.
She said with The Bahamas being in close proximity to Jamaica, it was more feasible and affordable to organise friendly encounters with the island.
