Badminton's best honoured

National senior badminton coach, Dr. Kingsley Ford, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for unselfish service to the sport.

Ford was among a number of honourees presented with special awards at the Jamaica Badminton Association's (JBA) awards ceremony held at Club India on Saturday.

Seventy trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up in the recent Tournament of Kings and Doubles Mania competitions in addition to special awards for performance and service to the sport of badminton.

Garron Palmer and Geordine Henry were voted as the top male and female badminton players respectively. Palmer won the open men's and mixed doubles while Henry took the open ladies singles, ladies doubles and was the runner-up in the mixed doubles.

Gareth Henry received a racquet bag, donated by former Jamaican top player, Bradley Graham, for his singles performance in the Tournament of Kings.

In addition, awards went to persons who offered above average assistance, mainly in umpiring, during the two tournaments, including Mikaylia Haldane, Alicia Lewis, Stacy-Ann Blake, Shana-Kay Bailey, Shakeria Bailey, Nikole Lyn, Shawn Forrester, Joslyn Davis and Keron Thompson.
