Two vie for final spot in domino league

Orville Clarke, Portmore Star Writer

Seven of the eight quarter finalists in the CTL-sponsored Portmore/St Catherine domino league were decided last Sunday following the 19th and final round of matches.

While the top seven are safe, two teams are vying for the eighth and final spot which will be decided tomorrow.

ISCF completed their fixture in eighth spot last Sunday with an upset victory (300-297) over high-riding Caribbean Classic in an away match at Portmore Lane to finish with 64 points from 19 matches. This is one ahead of the team in ninth position, Right Stuff who have a match in hand against Marlie Mount (home team) tomorrow.

Significantly, Right Stuff scored an upset victory over Eradication last Sunday in an away match at Gregory Park to keep their hopes alive.

They will need to beat Marlie Mount in order to advance ahead of ISCF (Police).

After the final round of matches, the top eight in the standings are Fort International with 87 points from 19 matches, Caribbean Classic in second with 81, Eagle View in third with 73, Eradication fourth on 72, Ackee Pod fifth with 68, defending champions Hurricane and Old Harbour United jointly in sixth on 67 points, and either ISCF or Right Stuff securing the final spot.

The quarter finals are scheduled to start on Sunday, April 27.

Meanwhile, Ken's Wildflower, having finished 19th with 15 points, and New Look, in last place with 11 points, will play each other in the traditional bottom-of-the-table clash for the Colin Fagan Trophy, donated by the MP for South East St Catherine. This match will be played on Sunday, April 27, at the Edgewater Community Centre.

Last Sunday, Fort International crushed Marlie Mount 300-233, Hurricane stopped Ackee Pod 300-274, while Eagle View and Old Harbour United gained walkovers from New Look and Ken's Wildflower, respectively.
