HILLEL PREP established three records on the way to retaining their title at the Mayberry Investments Limited swim meet at the National Stadium pool on Saturday.

Meet records by Tyler Chung and the 200m relay team helped the school to tally 1,280 points, almost twice as much as second-place Sts Peter and Paul (751). Vaz Prep were third with 707.

Naggo Head were also repeat champions, winning the Primary School division ahead of Excelsior.

Chung's record came in the boys' six and under 50m freestyle in a time of 44.71 seconds, shaving 0.13 seconds off the old mark. Nine-year-old Brandon Reid, also of Hillel, bettered the 100m freestyle mark by almost three seconds, when he stopped the clock at 1:17.72 in the boys' 12 and under. Reid, however, finished third behind winner and new record holder, St Andrew Prep's Sidrell Williams (1:11.73), and Excelsior Primary's Robert Marshall (1:12.20), who also went under the old mark.

Other record setters

Hillel's quartet of Chung, Joshua Jones, Kristoff Kerr and Karan Dhiman smashed the boys' six and under 200m freestyle record of 3:49.46 when they posted 3:44.49.

Other record setters were Vaz's Brianna Thompson (1:15.66) in the girls' 12 and under 100m freestyle. Thompson eased past the old mark of 1:16.64 in a race where St Andrew Prep's Rashida Shurland (1:15.57), also bettered the one-time record.

This year's swim meet was held in two parts as the high schools and universities competed on Friday, February 22. Immaculate Conception and Campion College won the girls' and boys' titles, respectively, while first-time participants University of Trinidad and Tobago won the tertiary division, denying University of the West Indies a third consecutive victory.
