All set for 'Heroes of Speed' at Dover

by Glenroy Sinclair, Assignment Coordinator

With only a few points separating the top three in the GTS Class, the race for the championship is on in earnest, as the curtain comes down on the 2007 Cable and Wireless-sponsored circuit racing season, at the Dover raceway, St. Ann, on Monday.

"Doug Gore is leading, but Peter 'Bull' Thompson and David Summerbell are still in with a chance," said Marck Carey, executive member of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC).

At 9 a.m., the drivers will take the track one by one to qualify for grid position. The first event is scheduled to get underway at noon.

Reports are that the humble cane farmer of Bluefields in Westmoreland, Guy Fraser, has wrapped up the MP3 Class, likewise Chris Bowla in the MP2 Class. Monday's event promises to be a thriller.

The long-awaited clash among 'Bull' Thompson, Doug Gore, Peter Rae and David Summerbell, looks likely to happen on Monday. Thompson who was planning to convert his RX7 Mazda engine to turbo has changed his mind.

"Things are not working out so I have gone back to my original plan," said Thompson. "Right now the car feels very good," he added.

Contacted yesterday, Peter Rae was still in the garage adding the finishing touches to his New York Brake/Autodon RX7 Mazda.

"Everything is going according to plan," said Rae.

Monday's race meet has been dubbed the 'Heroes of Speed'. Each October the fallen heroes of motor racing are recognised.

The Mobay team of Matthew and Doug Gore, Gary Williams and Guy Fraser are expected to once again dominate. One of the top female drivers, Lisa Bowman-Lee, who has just about wrapped up the IP35 championship for the second year running, is expected to give another big performance. She shares a car with husband Paul.
